Field Solitude Training and Data Collection: Jedediah Smith Wilderness - Bitch Creek
JUNE 15, 2026
8:00AM MST
"Opportunities for solitude" is one of the four defining wilderness characteristics identified in the 1964 Wilderness Act. The Solitude Monitoring Program is a partnership between WWA, federal agencies, and community members that trains local volunteers to collect data adhering to Forest Service protocol that is essential for assessing visitor trends and guiding management.
This field session co-hosted by WWA, Great Old Broads for Wilderness, and our agency partners will train participants on collecting solitude monitoring data and discuss Wilderness management practices on a spectacular out-and-back, featuring incredible wildflower meadows, on the remote Bitch Creek Trail in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness.
