Anyone "with standing," may make an objection the latest FEIS and ROD.
REMINDER: The comment period for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and Draft Record of Decision (ROD) for Grand Targhee Resort’s proposed expansion concludes on Monday, July 13.
The Targhee expansion project has concerned WWA since it was first announced in 2020. Many of you heeded our call to comment in June of 2025, when the last Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was published. The latest FEIS and ROD, released on May 29, 2026, effectively greenlight nearly all the Grand Targhee Resort’s proposed expansion in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. This appears to be a Washington DC-driven decision that does not take the region’s wildlands, wildlife, watersheds, infrastructure, community input, and local government requests into account.
HOW TO SUBMIT A SUCCESSFUL COMMENT:
The current comment period is only open to folks who “have standing” because they made substantive comments on the project last year. If you commented through the WWA action portal last June, you have standing. If you commented on your own, you may have standing, and you can check whether that comment was recorded by searching for your name in the FEIS.
Each substantive comment has been paired with a designated number; this number is used in Appendix E to show how the Forest Service addressed your comment in the FEIS. The content of your objection must directly relate to your previous comments and/or how the USFS failed to address your concerns in the FEIS or ROD.
Comments must also include:
1) Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
2) Identification of the lead objector, when multiple names are listed on an objection.
3) The subject: “Grand Targhee Master Development Plan Projects”
4) Addressed to: Kim Pierson, Forest Supervisor Caribou-Targhee National Forest.
5) A statement of the issues to which the objection applies.
6) A statement that demonstrates the link between your comments submitted spring of 2025 and the content of the objection.
7) A concise statement explaining the objection and suggesting how the proposed plan decision may be improved. Identify how the plan is inconsistent with law, regulation, or policy.
Submit your comment here by the July 13, 2026 deadline.
