About the event
Join wildlands enthusiast Jack Smith on a hike to an overlook above remote Pete’s Hole within the Horse Creek Mesa Roadless Area. This trail-less adventure begins at the foot of Medicine Mountain and traverses a variety of forest and meadow ecosystems, before dropping down to a rocky point near rarely-seen Crystal Creek Falls. From this vantage point much of the wildlands of Pete’s Hole area can be observed along with long-range vistas into the adjacent Big Horn Basin.
The hike is 4 miles round-trip and rated as "moderate" difficulty.
Directions: From Sheridan drive I-90 and U.S. Highway 14 to Burgess Junction. At the junction
go west on U.S. 14A toward the Medicine Wheel Archaeological Site. Proceed to the Crystal Creek Rest Area, approximately two miles west of the Medicine Wheel turnoff (approximately
72 miles from Sheridan and 29 miles from Lovell). The hike will begin and end at this location.
