Ten-day application period for to 2,000 positions nationwide to open for Friday, February 20, 2026.

NATIONWIDE - The US Forest Service (USFS) has announced that it will be opening applications for up to 2,000 summer seasonal employees this Friday, February 20, 2026.

This is incredible news for our nations wildlands. Last summer, thirteen of the fifteen Wilderness Areas in our state did not have a single Wilderness Ranger, and millions of acres of lands designated with the highest level of protection were left to fend for themselves.

And while WWA stepped up in 2025 by supporting a volunteer stewardship program in the Cloud Peak Wilderness, individual efforts cannot nor should not replace the need for appropriate funding and staffing of our federal public lands. Our Wyoming wilderness areas deserve the chance to have an agency presence back within their boundaries.

Applications for these 2,000 positions nationwide will only be accepted for a ten-day period beginning Friday, February 20th. The timeline and turnaround for this hiring process is SHORT.

If you or someone you know has a commitment to stewardship, strong backcountry experience, and a love for being outdoors, we encourage you to apply to be a Wilderness Ranger here in Wyoming this summer. The odds are high it will be the most tangible, fulfilling, challenging, and joyful work you ever do.

Details are still emerging about this hiring opportunity and WWA will post updates regularly. In the meantime, more information about this hiring opportunity can be found at:
